5th December, 2018) The budget of the Russian Armed Forces has remained at the level of $50 billion over the past years, which is 14 times less than the military spending of the United States, the chief of the Russian General Staff, Gen. Valery Gerasimov, said on Wednesday.
“The financing of the Russian Armed Forces has been standing at the level of $50 billion over the past years and has showed a trend toward decreasing … The military spending of the United States was 14 times greater than Russia’s spending.
In 2019, [the US military budget] will total over $716 billion, this exceeds military spending of all other countries,” Gerasimov said.
Gerasimov added that the eastern European states have recently been boosting their military capacities.
“Under these circumstances we have been taking all necessary retaliatory measures in order to ensure the country’s military security. Meanwhile, we do not increase the number of the armed forces and do not engage in the wasteful arms race,” Gerasimov indicated.
