Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia has granted its 5,000th wish to a child with a critical illness.
Sixteen-year-old Tia Cordell, from Chesapeake, has Cystic Fibrosis — a progressive and genetic disease that affects her lungs.
The Richmond-based charity is making her wish come true — she’s going to Alaska. Cordell says she loves the outdoors, which is why she wanted to travel there.
“I’m really outdoorsy. I like to go hunting. One of the activities I’m doing there is dog sledding. The northern lights are over there and I think that’s really cool,” Cordell said.
Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia’s wishes are made possible by private donations, volunteers, local foundations and businesses.
